Yetnoconceptionofthispossibilityentered\'LigeCurtis\'salcoholizedconsciousness,partofwhosemorbidphantasyitwastodistortorexaggerateallnaturalphenomena.HehadavagueideathathecouldnotgobacktoHarkutt\'s;alreadyhisvisitseemedtohavehappenedlong,longago,andcouldnotberepeated.Hewouldwalkon,enwrappedinthisuncompromisingdarknesswhichconcealedeverything,suggestedeverything,andwasresponsibleforeverything.
