StoneBoyhimselfcouldnotbeentirelydestroyed,buthewasovercomebyhisenemiesandlefthalfburiedintheearth,condemnednevertowalkagain,andtherewefindhimtothisday。

EveningintheLodgeI:EveningintheLodgeIHADbeenskatingonthatpartofthelakewheretherewasanoverflow,andcamehomesome—

whatcold。Icannotsayjusthowcolditwas,butitmusthavebeenintenselyso,forthetreeswerecrackingallaboutmelikepistolshots。I

didnotmind,becauseIwaswrappedupinmybuffalorobewiththehairinside,andawideleatherbelthelditaboutmyloins。Myskateswerenothingmorethanstripsofbasswoodbarkbounduponmyfeet。

Ihadtakenoffmyfrozenmoccasinsandputondryonesintheirplaces。
